SAN FRANCISCO, March 29, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan to fill vacant ministerial positions in the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

Ocheni is from Kogi State which has not had anyone in the FEC, as constitutionally required, since the death of Mr. James Ocholi SAN in an accident last year.

Hassan from Gombe State, is to replace former minister Amina Mohammed who left Nigeria’s public service for a job as the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

During Wednesday’s plenary, the
Senate President, Bukola Saraki read Buhari’s letter, requesting screening and confirmation of the two ministerial nominees at the plenary on Wednesday.

The letter read: “In accordance with section 147 (2) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. I have the honour to forward the underlisted ministerial nominees for confirmation of the Senate Stephen Nkani Ocheni (professor) Kogi State 2. Suleiman Zana Hassan Gombe State. Copies of their curriculum vitae attached herewith.

“It is my hope that this exercise will receive the usual kind of expeditious consideration of the distinguished members of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

This development is coming barely 24 hours after the Senate suspended confirmation of the 27 persons nominated as Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, in protest against the refusal of Buhari to sack Ibrahim Magu as the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, despite his repeated rejection by the lawmakers.
