Awolowo’s Grandson And VP’s In-Law Out, As Buhari Picks New Head For Export Agency

October 12, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Ezra Yakusak as the new Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Export Promotion Council, NEPC.

Dr. Yakusak replaces Mr. Segun Awolowo as Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Council.

Grandson of the former Premier of the defunct Western Region, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the outgoing CEO has completed his two terms.

Awolowo, until his death the Yoruba and Afenifere leader, also, founded two parties, the Action Group (AG) in the First Republic and the Unity Party Of Nigeria (UPN) in the Second Republic.

Segun Awolowo is, also, the cousin of the wife of Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

A statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the appointment is for an initial term of four years in accordance with the provision of Section 7 (1) of the NEPC (Establishment) Act, 1987.

The statement further said that the appointment is with effect from 27th November 2021.

Until his appointment, Dr. Yakusak, who holds a Ph.D. in commercial law from the Ahmadu Bello University, was the Director of Policy and Strategy at NEPC.

He has also served as Secretary to the Governing Board of the Council.
