October 5, (THEWILL) – Club Brugge secured a UEFA Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday as goals from Kamal Soweh and Ferran Jutgla gave them a 2-0 win and preserved their perfect record in Europe so far.
At Jan Breydel Stadium, the Belgian champions made it three wins in a row in Group B, the first ever Belgian side to do so, to take a massive step closer to claiming an unexpected place in the round of 16.
First-half goals from Soweh and Jutgla increased Carl Hoefkens’ team’s advantage and it did not help Atletico that Antoine Griezmann missed a 76th-minute penalty.
The win has now given Brugge a six-point advantage at the top of their challenging Group B. With just three games remaining, Atleti is level on points with Porto and Bayer Leverkusen but Diego Simeone’s team is at the bottom of the group at this stage of the competition.
Before they face Brugge again on October 12, Atletico is up against Girona on Saturday in La Liga, the same day that Brugge will clash with Westerlo in their First Division A.
