Janaury 27, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion ended their eight-game winless run against Sheffield United in style, storming to a 5-2 victory at Bramall Lane. A wonder goal from Facundo Buonanotte set the Seagulls on their way before new signing Joao Pedro’s hat-trick put the result beyond doubt.
De Zerbi’s men had failed to score in their previous two matches but quickly banished claims they had lost their attacking verve. Buonanotte unleashed an unstoppable 35-yard drive past debutant goalkeeper Ivo Grbic to open the floodgates. Pedro doubled Brighton’s lead from the penalty spot after he was clipped in the area.
The Blades remarkably fought back to level before halftime through Gustavo Hamer and William Osula. However, Pedro kept his cool to score another penalty and one more goal to complete his treble. The Brazilian’s tenth successful spot-kick of the campaign rubber-stamped Brighton’s superiority.
Danny Welbeck added further gloss in stoppage time as Brighton made it four wins from six games. The Seagulls have their sights set on a maiden cup triumph after reaching the last eight in three of the past four seasons. Meanwhile, Sheffield United’s attention returns to their Premier League survival bid.
