September 18, (THEWILL) – Roberto De Zerbi has been named as Brighton and Hove Albion’s next head coach.
The Italian, signed a four-year contract at the American Express Community Stadium on Sunday, and he has been appointed as Graham Potter’s replacement.
After a strong start to the season under Potter, who left for Chelsea on September 8, and 13 points from their first six games, De Zerbi takes over with Brighton as high as fourth in the English Premier League.
Due to the conflict in Ukraine, the 43-year-old had been out of work since leaving Shakhtar Donetsk in July. But, on October 1, he will take over as manager of Brighton and call the shots on their away match against Liverpool.
De Zerbi, who has coached Palermo, Benevento, and Sassuolo in the Italian top division, will bring some of Serie A experience to the Brighton dugout. During his three years with Sassuolo, the former Milan and Napoli attacking midfielder was notable for leading the club to back-to-back eighth-place finishes.
