February 28, (THEWILL) – Brentford’s star striker, Ivan Toney, has reportedly pleaded guilty to several of the Football Association’s (FA) 262 gambling charges against him.
These charges date back to 2017 and include betting offenses. According to sources monitored by THEWILL, Toney has admitted to multiple charges but is still contesting others. He is expected to take his case to an upcoming hearing with the FA.
If he is found guilty, he could be banned from football activities for an extended period, possibly even before the end of the current campaign. The length of the ban would depend on the number of charges Toney is found guilty of.
THEWILL recalls that former midfielder Joey Barton was suspended for 18 months after admitting to 1260 charges in 2017, which was later reduced to 13 months following an appeal.
Toney’s suspension would not only impact Brentford’s season but could also impact the summer transfer market, as a number of sides are reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
