February 04, (THEWILL) – Brentford continued their impressive run in the English Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.
Ben Mee got things started for the home side with a header in the 41st minute, which was followed by a goal from Bryan Mbeumo three minutes later. Mbeumo added an assist to his tally with a brilliant cross that set up Wissa for the pass that led to his goal.
Midfielder Mathias Jensen rounded off the scoring for Brentford with a header in the 80th minute, making it a terrible day in the office for Southampton’s goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. New signing Paul Onuachu was subbed in the 46th minute but could find a debut goal.
It is a victory that takes Brentford up to seventh in the league table, with 33 points from 21 games and just three points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Southampton remain at the bottom of the table with 15 points and the pressure is increasing on manager Nathan Jones. Their fans turned on Jones at the final whistle, chanting that he would be fired in the morning.
The Saints will host Wolverhampton Wanderers next Saturday, while Brentford will travel to take on league leaders Arsenal.
