July 04, (THEWILL) – Brentford have completed the signing of Irish defender, Nathan Collins, from Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking a significant move for the English Premier League club.
The six-year contract, which is a club record, was confirmed on Tuesday. Although the exact transfer fee was not disclosed by Brentford, media sources monitored by THEWILL, indicate that the West London team has agreed to pay Wolves a reported sum of £23 million for the 22-year-old player. This surpasses the previous club record of £21 million paid for German forward, Kevin Schade.
Bees’ Manager, Thomas Frank, clearly showed his admiration for Collins, when he said: “He has a lot of very good abilities that we value a lot. He’s a composed and calm defender. His heading in both boxes is a big thing, both in open play and from set-pieces, which is massive in the Premier League,”
Brentford’s acquisition of Collins comes as the team seeks to build on their promising performance last season, where they narrowly missed out on a European spot by just two points, ultimately finishing in ninth place.
