BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Chargé d’affaires, Consuls General Of Foreign Missions

April 23, (THEWILL) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of five Chargé d’affaires en titre and 12 Consuls General to various Nigerian duty posts abroad.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, disclosed this on the official X handle of the Ministry on Tuesday.

Presenting letters of Commission to the new appointees on Monday, Tuggar, in the company of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa, urged the appointees to serve as effective representatives of Nigeria, highlighting their crucial role in furthering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic goals.

He emphasised the importance of remaining focused on their diplomatic duties as experienced diplomats, urging them to steer clear of engaging in political activities and instead rededicate themselves to the noble pursuit of diplomacy for the benefit of Nigeria’s progress and common good.

As Career Diplomats, the Minister charged them to pay attention to extant rules and regulations and comply with Headquarter’s directives at all times, so as to uphold the standard and sanctity of the Nigerian Foreign Service.

Present at the ceremony were some Directors and other senior officers of the Ministry.

Speaking on behalf of the newly appointees, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, the just designated Consul General for the Consulate in New York, emphasised his colleagues’ dedication to maintaining the principles of their profession and promised to attract crucial investments to the country.

He also expressed gratitude to the President and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for entrusting them with this responsibility.

The newly appointed Charges d’Affaires en titre and Consuls General are expected to start their duties immediately.
