BREAKING: Justice Ariwoola Takes Oath Of Office As Acting CJN

June 27, (THEWILL) – Oyo born jurist , Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, on Monday took the oath of office as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

President Muhammadu Buhari administered the oath of office to Justice Ariwoola during a swearing-in ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Ariwoola will serve in acting capacity till further confirmation by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

While taking the judicial oath, he swore to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Government of Nigeria, as well as defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ariwoola arrived at the Presidential Villa in the company of fellow Justices of the Supreme Court at about 2.45pm in a white tinted coaster bus.

He takes over from Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad who resigned this morning as CJN citing health reasons.

Born on 22 August 1958 in Iseyin, Oyo State, Justice Ariwoola was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal and was elevated to the Supreme Court bench.

Prior to becoming a Justice of the Supreme Court, he was appointed a judge of the Oyo State High Court in 1992 and later made a Justice of the Court of Appeal in November 2005.

On November 22, 2011, he was appointed to the bench of the Supreme Court of Nigeria as Justice.

Before his elevation to the Supreme Court, he served as Justice of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos Divisions.

Ariwoola will retire from the Judicial service in 2028.

He is a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the Nigerian Body of Benchers
