SAN FRANCISCO, October 02, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Deziani Alison-Madueke has been arrested by the Metropolitan police in London on corruption charges.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke was arrested on Friday morning, sources familiar with the development told THEWILL.
Several attempts to get further information from the Metropolitan Police has been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Premium Times, which first reported her arrest, says it spoke to some British officials who confirmed her arrest by the UK’s National Crime Agency.
The officials said three other persons were arrested with her.
The National Crime Agency told THEWILL in a phone call that it does not disclose information on its operations to the public.
Premium Times said The British mission in Nigeria confirmed her arrest to it.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) is a national law enforcement agency of the United Kingdom which replaced the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Wikipedia said.
It became fully operational on 7 October 2013 and is a non-ministerial government department.
The NCA includes the Children Exploitation and Online Protection Centre as an individual command, and parts of the National Policing Improvement Agency. Some of the responsibilities of the UK border Agency relating to border policing also became part of the NCA.
It is the UK’s lead agency against organised crime; human, weapon and drug trafficking; cyber crime; and economic crime that goes across regional and international borders, but can be tasked to investigate any crime. The NCA has a strategic role in which it looks at the bigger picture across the UK, analysing how criminals are operating and how they can be disrupted. To do this it works closely with regional organised crime units (ROCUs), the Serious Fraud Office, as well as individual police forces. It is the UK point of contact for foreign agencies such as Interpol, Europol and other international law enforcement agencies.
