December 29, (THEWILL) – Pele, the Brazilian football legend, has passed away at the age of 82, according to his agent.
As THEWILL reported, the former Santos forward was admitted to the hospital on November 29 due to difficulties from colon cancer. On Wednesday, the Hospital, Israelita Albert Einstein, reported that the cancer had progressed and that he needed treatment for renal and cardiac dysfunctions.
When word got out that Pele’s son, Edinho, had come from Londrina, 540 kilometres east of Sao Paulo, to join two of Pele’s daughters, Kely Nascimento and Flavia Arantes dos Nascimento, near his bedside, concerns for Pele’s health increased.
On October 23, 1940, Edson Arantes dos Nascimento was born in Três Coraçes, Brazil. With Santos, he began playing at the age of 15, and at the age of 16, he made his debut for Brazil.
He participated in four World Cups, winning three of them in 1958, 1962, and 1970. With 77 goals in 92 games, he is also joint-top scorer for Brazil. He is unarguably one of the best ever football players to have played the game.
