December 08, (THEWILL) – West Ham United pulled off an impressive comeback victory on Thursday night, defeating London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the English Premier League.
Tottenham took an early lead when defender Cristian Romero headed in a corner kick in the 11th minute. The home side dominated possession in the first half with West Ham unable to mount any serious attacks. Just before half-time, Lucas Paqueta missed a golden chance to equalise when he barely made contact on a free header.
The second half saw a revival from West Ham as Jarrod Bowen scored the equaliser in the 52nd minute. His shot up into the net gave further momentum to the visitors. Energised by the goal, West Ham began applying consistent pressure on their opponents.
In the 74th minute, Bowen’s tenacity created the chance that led to West Ham taking the lead. His challenge forced a poor backpass from Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie, resulting in an opportunity for James Ward-Prowse. His initial shot struck the post but the rebound left him with an open net for the winner.
Despite a late push, Tottenham could not find an equaliser of their own. The loss leaves them winless in their last five league matches, while West Ham earned a statement victory which will please manager David Moyes.
