BEVERLY HILLS, November 23, (THEWILL) – There was excitement in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Monday, as public schools in the state which were shut last year because of the Boko Haram insurgency were re-opened for academic work.
The turn-out at most of the schools were however low as many are yet to resume.
The re-opening of the schools had been shifted severally by the State Government because of consideration for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) presently camped in schools in Maiduguri who have to be relocated.
The challenges of relocating the IDPs from schools and the relative insecurity in some parts of the state led to the merger of three or four schools on a facility to enable the IDPs begin classes.
The State Commissioner for Education, Inuwa Kubo, who went round the city to assess the level of compliance with the re-opening said government had done aggressive sensitization to inform parents to return their children back to school.
