Boniface To Face Acid Test Against Bayern Munich

September 12, (THEWILL) – Nigerian forward, Victor Boniface, will face his toughest test yet in the Bundesliga on Friday night, when his Bayer Leverkusen side travel to champions Bayern Munich.

Both teams have started the season with three wins from three, but the clash at the Allianz Arena is being billed as Boniface’s biggest challenge so far. The former Union Saint-Gilloise man has made a blistering start to life in the Bundesliga, scoring four goals and providing two assists in his first four games.

However, Friday’s opponents Bayern represent a step up in class. The perennial champions spent over £100 million in the summer to land Tottenham Hotspur record-setting striker, Harry Kane, who has scored three goals in his first three outings. With Kane and Boniface both arriving in Germany, much of the pre-match focus has centred on the battle between the two forwards.

Some have even claimed the 22-year-old Nigerian forward represents the future, though Kane has the edge in experience of high-pressure games. The England man will be determined to outshine his opposite number on Friday night. The odds certainly favour Bayern, whose squad depth and home advantage give them an edge over the current League leaders. Die Werkself have won just six of their last 29 Bundesliga meetings with the Bavarian giants, most recently in March this year.

However, Boniface has proven he can rise to the big occasion, topping the Europa League scoring charts last term when few backed him. Should Leverkusen pull off an upset, it would strengthen Boniface’s case as the Bundesliga’s best new signing. For now, his mettle is set for its biggest test yet.
