BEVERLY HILLS, July 03, (THEWILL) – In what appeared a bizarre mode of punishment for defection, Boko Haram gunmen, Friday morning, stormed Miringa village in the southern part of Borno State, and slaughtered 11 former members who renounced their membership of the sect recently.
A local vigilante member, Abba Modu, who disclosed this in Maiduguri, the state capital, said the insurgents stormed the village around 4am to perpetrate the horror.
Modu said: “They came around 4am today (Friday) and slit the throats of 11 of their run away members,” adding “Everyone knew in the village that the men who recently came back to settle among them were Boko Haram because they had left long ago and showing by their appearance and sudden return, the villagers knew they were not safe.”
Corroborating the account, a resident of the town, Ibrahim Mohammed, said about 50 insurgents sneaked into the village and went after the defecting members.
“We heard cries from the area the 11 were living as they were isolated, we were all too scared to come out as the insurgents were shouting and equally shooting to the air.
“At the dawn of the morning when we summoned enough courage to come out, we saw the 11 in the pool of their blood with slit throats,” Mohammed said.
