Bochum Pile Misery On Struggling Bayern With Shock Win

February 18, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich’s recent struggles continued this weekend as they fell to a surprise 3-2 defeat away to VfL Bochum. The loss marks the third consecutive defeat across all competitions for the Bavarian giants – their worst run since May 2015.

Despite taking an early lead through Jamal Musiala, sloppy defending allowed Bochum to equalise through Takuma Asano. The home side then took a shock lead shortly before the break when Keven Schlotterbeck rose unchallenged from a corner.

Bayern battled to get back on level terms but saw their task made harder when Dayot Upamecano was sent off, conceding a penalty in the process. Bochum’s Kevin Stoger stepped up to convert the spot kick and give his side an improbable two-goal cushion.

A late Harry Kane goal set up a nervy finish, but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser. The result leaves Bayern eight points adrift of surprise leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Bochum have been resilient at home this season. Despite pre-season predictions, Saturday’s win leaves them 11th in the table and unbeaten in 10 games at the Ruhrstadion in all competitions.
