BEVERLY HILLS, July 06, (THEWILL) – A blast has occurred at a mosque in Kano, Northwestern Nigeria, targeting Muslims who had just finished prayers as part of the Ramadan season.

The Monday night attack occurred outside the Umar-Bin-Khattab Mosque located along Zaria Road in the commercial city.

THEWILL gathered that a female teenager was the suicide bomber that detonated her IED just outside the mosque, after she was prevented from gaining access into it by a group of vigilant youths acting as guards, who were suspicious of her motive.

The blast killed her instantly and wounded a few others who have been transported to a local hospital.

THEWILL gathered that no one else was killed other than the teenager.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack which has the hallmark of the Boko Haram, a terrorist group operating mainly in northern Nigeria that has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS).

The Kano attack is coming barely 24hours after two blasts rocked Jos, Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, killing at least 44 Muslims, who had just finished prayers. Another suicide attack at a Redeemed Christian Church branch in Potiskum, Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria, on Sunday, killed five persons including the pastor of the church.
