July 11, (THEWILL) – Singer Ahmedu Obiabo, otherwise known as Blackface, has accused Ololade Ahmed, aka Asake, of copyright infringement.
He made this known in an interview with Naija FM. According to him, Asake sampled his song ‘Ikebe Super’ in ‘Joha’.
“Asake’s ‘Joha’ is a sample of my song ‘Ikebe Super.’ I dey inspire them,” he said.
‘Joha’ is a track off Asake’s 2022 debut album while ‘Ikebe Super’ is a song from Blackface’s 2016 album ‘Defender Vol.1′.
In January, the singer had accused Asake and Olamide, his label boss, of not reaching out to him over the alleged usage of his work.
In the interview, Blackface also revisited his claim that Ayo Balogun, aka Wizkid and Ebunoluwa Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy copied his song.
The singer argued that Wizkid and Burna borrowed heavily from his song, ‘ Twist and Turn’ in their collaboration ‘Ginger’.
He also claimed there are similarities in the rhythm, beat, and the way the melody commenced and ended.
“Ginger’ by Wizkid and Burna Boy, is a sample of my track ‘Twist and Turn’; the rhythm, the beat, how the melody starts and ends. Na only the verses dem change,” he said.
The former Plantashun Boiz star said he is not against young artistes sampling his songs but worried about the manner in which they go about it without seeking permission.
