July 27 (THEWILL) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has announced the names of the Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of the 134 House Standing Committees.
The composition of the Committees is in accordance with the House standing rules, which provide for the establishment of standing committees to carry out the oversight function on government agencies and programmes and address specific issues of national importance.
Announcing the Committees at plenary on Thursday, Abbas named Abubakar Bichi as Appropriations Committee chairman; Babajimi Benson, Defence Chairman; Regina Akume, National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Committee chairman; and James Faleke – Finance.
Others include Muktar Betara, who was appointed to chair FCT Committee; Yusuf Gagdi, Navy; Idris Ahmed Wase chairs Federal Character; Bamidele Salam of the PDP as Chairman of Public Accounts Committee; Wole Oke as chairman of Judiciary Committee; Ahmed Satomi – National Security; Leke Abejide for Customs; and Akin Alabi – Works.
Also Adamu Tanko, was appointed chairman of Diaspora Committee; Okonta Chris, Climate Change; Chris Ogene – Renewable Energy; Bello el-Rufai – Banking Regulations, and Ibrahim Bukar-Ibrahim – Rural Electrification, Alhassan Doguwa, Petroleum Resources Upstream; Ikenga Ugochinyere, Petroleum Resources Downstream; Sada Soli, Water Resources, among others.
