February 23, (THEWILL) – The Finnish Central Police has released Simon Ekpa, hours after questioning, for suspected crime in the Nordic nation.
THEWILL earlier reported that Ekpa, a self-acclaimed factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was arrested on Thursday, by operatives of the KRP police at his residence in Lahti, Finland.
A senior officer with the Finnish Central Criminal Police, Tommi Reen, confirmed Ekpa’s release to journalists on Thursday evening.
He said police operation and subsequent arrest of the Nigerian, were in connection with the ongoing preliminary investigation for a crime in Finland.
Ekpa was interrogated for a few hours, after which he was released. He is expected to report at the police station on Friday.
“The person being questioned today is suspected of a crime. We will return to the title on Friday”, Reen said.
While details of the alleged crime has not been disclosed at the time of filing this report, Ekpa’s followers have been linked to violent attacks against residents and security operatives in the south eastern part of Nigeria.
