September 27, (THEWILL) – Sassuolo pulled off a shock 2-1 away win over Inter Milan, bringing an end to the hosts’ flawless start to the Serie A season. A sublime long-range strike from Domenico Berardi sealed the comeback victory for Sassuolo after Inter had taken a late first-half lead through Denzel Dumfries.
The visitors made a bright start, enjoying decent spells of possession in the opening half hour. Inter eventually gained the upper hand, with Dumfries going close twice before finally breaking the deadlock on the stroke of halftime. The Dutch full-back cut inside and fired a low shot into the bottom corner for his second league goal of the campaign.
Sassuolo levelled things up nine minutes after the restart when Nedim Bajrami hammered home following a pinpoint pass from Berardi. Then came the moment of magic from the Italian forward, who was allowed space to drift inside and unleash a dipping, swerving effort from 20 yards that flew past Inter keeper Yann Sommer.
Despite bringing on attacking reinforcements, Inter could not find an equaliser. Sassuolo had chances to extend their lead before surviving late Inter pressure to claim a memorable win at the San Siro.
The result ends Inter’s 100% start and sees them level on points at the top of the Serie A table with city finals AC Milan. On Saturday, Inter are away at Salernitana while Sassuolo host Monza on Monday, in their next match.
