November 19, (THEWILL) – On the eve of the Qatar World Cup, French Striker, Karim Benzema appears to have suffered an injury setback on Saturday.

The Real Madrid superstar and Ballon d’Or winner only started full training again with Les Bleus this past weekend but was unable to finish the session with Didier Deschamps’ squad. He was forced to leave due to an injury but it is not yet known how serious the issue may be.

Early in the season, Benzema dealt with a knee problem that kept him sidelined. Later, he missed more games for Madrid due to left quadriceps muscle exhaustion.

France will face Australia on Tuesday, to open the defence of the title they won in Russia, and on November 26 and 30, respectively, they will face Denmark and Tunisia in Group D.

Though Deschamps has options like Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and Olivier Giroud, Benzema’s absence from the tournament, should it come to that, would be a major setback for France.

As THEWILL reported, the talented Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig, was forced to leave the team this week after sustaining knee ligament damage in a collision with Eduardo Camavinga during training.
