April 08, (THEWILL) – An accident involving an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus, has occurred in which four persons were confirmed dead and fifteen others sustaining various injuries. The road mishap happened one kilometer after NYSC Orientation Camp, Annunne, in Tarka local government area of Benue state.
An eye witness account had it that the bus, which was returning from a burial ceremony was carrying worshippers from Saint Francis Catholic church Nyiekaa, near Owner Occupiers Housing Estate, Makurdi, when the vehicle veered of the road and hit a nearby tree.
Members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), from Nyiekaa also died in the accident, while some good Nigerians were said to have assisted in taking victims to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Benue State Command, Mr Yakubu Mohammed, said the crash occurred on Thursday at about 1148hrs.
“There were 19 people in the vehicle, 18 females and one male adult, who was the driver. So, there are 15 injured persons, while four died.”
According to the sector commander, both the injured and the dead have been taken to St. Christopher Hospital and NKST Hospital, both in Annunne in Tarka local government area of Benue state.
Most of the deceased persons are said to be members of St. Francis Catholic Church, Nyiekaa, at Owners Occupier quarters in Makurdi.
It will be recalled that a couple of days ago, an accident occurred in Makurdi town, when an Okada rider fell and an approaching vehicle crushed a passenger on it to death, near George Akume way.
