March 24, (THEWILL) –The expanded caucus and stakeholders meeting of Benue state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has ended in Makurdi with a directive to governorship aspirants from Benue North East and South senatorial districts to prone their number to five.

A check reveals that governorship aspirants from Kwande/Ushongo and Vandeikya/Konshisha federal constituencies, as well as Benue South are numbering over thirty.

The state chairman of the party, Sir John Ngbede, in a address to the meeting, directed leaders and governorship aspirants from the affected areas to meet and nominate out of their numbers only five and forward the list to the state Secretariat of the party for necessary action.

According to him, the party decided as a policy to encourage youth participation in the polity by allowing youth of 25 to 30 years to pay half of the required fee for expression of interest form.

He disclosed that any woman intending to contest for any elective position in Benue state will only pay for expression of interest form, pledging neutrality in the course of the exercise.

Governor Samuel Ortom, who was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Engr Benson Abounu, said the nation at the moment is at a cross road with no sign of rescue.

“APC is one administration that has divided Nigerians along ethnic groups and promoting insurgency. Only governor Samuel Ortom that seems to stand against it.

“If not for Ortom, the insurgents would have crushed Benue state, leading to the South-South region.”

According to him, 2023 is for PDP to take over power because in the last seven years, APC has destroyed the economy and security of the nation.

Abounu noted that Nigerians are ready for PDP with senator Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the party, who did not apply for the position, but leaders in the North found it worthy to zone it to north central, which governor Samuel Ortom, David Mark, senator Gabriel Suswam decided for Ayu to lead.

He said, Benue state was craving for development, in which governor Ortom has taken it to the next level and charged stakeholders in Benue project to remain focused and supportive to the administration to deliver dividends to all.
