Benue Lists 15,000 Poor, Vulnerable Persons To Benefit From Health Insurance

December 16, (THEWILL) – No fewer than fifteen thousand poor and vulnerable persons have been shortlisted to benefit from health insurance which will commence by February next year.

The Director of Public Health in the Benue state Ministry of Health and Human Services, Dr. Terna Kur who made the disclosure in Makurdi, explained that each council wards across the 23 local government areas have been enumerated for the scheme.

The 12th of December every year is commemorated as international universal health coverage day to raise awareness on the need for strong and resilience health system and the need for leaders at all levels to provide affordable health care to citizens.

Meanwhile, Commissioner for Health and Human Services and chairman, technical W
working group on mental health, Dr. Joseph Ngbea, has charged stakeholders in the state to double efforts in meeting the health needs of those that meet the conditions.

The commissioner acknowledged milestones recorded and called for sustenance; saying the state government has promoted mental health at the National Council on Mental Health that other states of the federation are emulating.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of Benue State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Bem Agenda sued for robust partnership amongst stakeholders in providing mental healthcare to endure people with mental health issues were not relegated to the background.

On his part, the Coordinator of Comprehensive Health programme in the Methodist Church Nigeria, Oturkpo diocese in collaboration with CBM Australia, Mr. Samuel Ogbole said, N1 billion was expected from CBM for disability inclusive development to enhance health in individual, community system strengthening.

The chairman of the Joint National Association of People with Disability, Mr. Sunday Saleh, noted that people with disability suffers psychological trauma and appealed to people with special needs not to see their conditions as the end of the world.
