August 05, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have signed Benfica midfielder, Joao Neves, for a reported €70 million. The 19-year-old Portuguese international has agreed to a contract until 2029 with the French champions.
The deal, announced on Monday, includes Renato Sanches moving in the opposite direction. The 26-year-old midfielder will return to Benfica on loan as part of the agreement.
Neves, who has nine caps for Portugal and played in two Euro 2024 group matches, is expected to bring creativity to PSG’s midfield. He will join fellow midfielders, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, and Warren Zaire-Emery, at the Parisian club.
PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, praised Neves, calling him “one of the most talented players in Portugal and in the world”. The club described their new signing as a “hard worker, a complete and versatile player”.
This transfer marks PSG’s second summer acquisition, following the signing of Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. Neves expressed his pride in joining PSG, describing it as a “very ambitious club” in a statement released by the team.
