SAN FRANCISCO, February 01, (THEWILL) – Some kinsmen of the recently-inaugurated Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, have trekked with their masquerade, Anupo, from Abuja, where they are residing to Okene, Kogi State to celebrate the installation of one of their own as Governor of the state.
The walk to Okene, the ancestral headquarters of the Ebira tribe, was coordinated by the custodian of the Anupo masquerade, Mallam Kabiru Sule and lasted six days.
THEWILL reports that since the creation of Kogi State in 1993, this will be the first time that another tribe different from the dominant Igala nationality will be producing the governor of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the contingents shortly after arriving at Okene with the masquerade, Sule explained that the decision to embark on the journey was in solidarity with their kinsmen from the Central Senatorial district for the governorship slot God has given them.
According to him, “We have been celebrating since last week Wednesday when Yahaya Bello took the oath of office as the fourth governor of the state and we decided to hit road by trekking to Okene.
“We started the journey six days ago from Zuba through Abaji, Lokoja to Okene to rejoice with our people”
The masquerade and its members arrived Ogaminana at about 10am on Sunday and proceeded to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, Dr Ado Ibrahim, to pay homage and rejoice with him over the new governor who is from the kingdom.
The masquerade custodian charged the Governor to collaborate with the federal government for the actualization of Ajaokuta /Itakpe iron mining project to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the state. He also appealed to the people of the state to support the new administration in the interest of development of Kogi state.
