July 29, (THEWILL) – Nigerian Afro-pop singer, Adekunle Gold, has stated that his usual switch from one music genre to another is due to the fact that he doesn’t like being predictable as an artiste.

The 34-year-old made this known during an interview with BBC Africa wherein he discussed his music career and forthcoming album.

He also stated that after the release of “Gold,” his debut album, in 2016, he felt the need to go higher on his next project since people thought that was all he could do at the time.

He stated that in spite of his penchant for switching genres, he is still the same in terms of passion and quality in his projects.

He said: “There’s no song of mine that doesn’t reflect me… I’m the Adekunle Gold you have known since 2015. One thing is constant: I’ll always put my soul behind any song, no matter how experimental I get, I’m always going to sound like me.

“I hate being predictable. After my first album, I feel like people thought that is the only thing that he knows how to do. Therefore, following the release of ‘Gold’ album, I said my next project will be an upgrade.

“So, I decided to make ‘About 30’ a bit different. When it dropped, there were mixed feelings, with some asking ‘what’s he up to?’

“After ‘About 30’, I knew my next album would be a totally different sound. So, in all these, I knew it and planned for it. Not like I just woke up and decide that I want to change. I don’t just want to be the guy that is known for only making a certain sound.”

The singer also disclosed that his new album would be released in few weeks, saying that the project would be “mind-blowing.”

“I’m not allowed to share details about it now but it’ll drop in like few weeks and will be mind-blowing. I have proven that with ‘Sinner’ already,” he added.
