March 11, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich put on a goal-scoring masterclass to beat Augsburg 5-3 in a high-octane match at the Allianz Arena.
Mergim Berisha opened the scoring in the second minute, but Joao Cancelo equalised for the hosts, before Benjamin Pavard put Bayern in front with a close-range volley, and then scored another spectacular goal ten minutes before half-time.
Leroy Sane added another goal on the stroke of half-time, heading into an empty net after Sadio Mane’s cross had deflected off two Augsburg players. Berisha scored a penalty to reduce the deficit, but Alphonso Davies clinched the win with a clinical finish at the back post after Cancelo had picked him out with a brilliant cross.
Irvin Cardona scored a late consolation goal for Augsburg, but Bayern had already done enough to move three points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the summit of the Bundesliga.
Bayern will enjoy a week free of fixtures before their next match against Leverkusen, while Schalke will be Augsburg’s next opponent. Bayern cemented their position as the Bundesliga leaders after advancing to the next round of the UCL, and they will be hoping to continue their good form in the coming weeks.
