Bayern Survive Late Charge To Beat Dynamo 2-1, Maintain Perfect Group E Record

November 24, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich won 2-1 away in the snow against Dynamo Kyiv, maintaining their perfect record in the UEFA Champions League this season with the talismanic Robert Lewandowski scoring a brilliant bicycle kick.

The Bavarians overcame a strong start from the hosts and seized the lead thanks to Lewandowski’s ninth goal of the season. The Pole has now scored in each of his previous nine UCL outings, becoming the first player to do so on multiple occasions, as he first accomplished the feat in August 2020.

When Manuel Neuer missed Leon Goretzka’s stunning last-ditch challenge and the ball struck the post, Julian Naglesmann’s side came close to giving their opponents a cheap equaliser.

Three minutes before the end of the first period, Kingsley Coman rifled the ball into the corner off the crossbar after a wonderful passing move as the Germans continued to dominate possession.

Kyiv made two substitutions at halftime and should have cut the deficit in half, with Mykola Shaparenko’s two weak attempts saved by Neuer.

With a brilliant finish from Viktor Tsygankov’s through ball, one of the replacements, Denys Gamrash, scored the team’s first goal of the season.

The German champions survived a late scare when Shaparenko’s shot from the edge of the box was clumsily parried by Neuer but they were able to hold on to their slender lead for their fifth win in five group games, even though they have already qualified for the knockout stages.

With so many players out due to injury or COVID-19 regulations, Naglesmann will be relieved his team returned to base with three points from the snowy Kiev, especially following the criticism that followed their performance against Augsburg.
