October 1, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich defeated Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 to reinforce their Bundesliga championship defence credentials with a coldly assured first-half demolition job.
At the Allianz Arena on Friday, goals from Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, and Sadio Mane put the champions firmly in control of a well-deserved victory. Thomas Muller then added a fourth goal toward the end.
Questions had been raised about Julian Nagelsmann’s team and the possibility of winning another top-flight title in the post-Robert Lewandowski era following a disastrous domestic run that saw them go four league games without a victory.
However, for the time being, these doubts have been vehemently silenced, while Gerardo Seoane’s team watched their harrowing start to the 2022/2023 campaign deteriorate in a cruel way on the road.
This victory relieves some of Nagelsmann’s pressure by moving Bayern up to second place in the standings. They will now focus on Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Champions League. Meanwhile, Leverkusen slides to 16th, as Seoane faces even more pressure. Next up for them is a UCL match versus Porto.
