Bayern Draw 1-1 With Leipzig As Bundesliga Resumes

January 21, (THEWILL) – The highly-anticipated match between Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig did not disappoint, as the two teams played out an entertaining 1-1 draw on Friday, in the Bundesliga.

The match marked the return of the league after a brief World Cup break. Bayern took the lead eight minutes before half-time, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring. But, Marcel Halstenberg struck in the 52nd minute for Leipzig, drawing the third-placed team level against the league leaders.

The match featured a number of close calls and controversies including a rash challenge by ex-Leipzig defender, Dayot Upamecano, on Dominik Szoboszlai that could have resulted in a red card.

In the end, Bayern debutant, Yann Sommer, was unable to prevent Halstenberg from scoring the equaliser, and the match ended in a draw. Despite the disappointment, Bayern will be pleased to have come away with a point against what truly is a strong Leipzig team.

Both sides return to Bundesliga action on Tuesday, as Schalke 04 welcome Leipzig to the VELTINS-Arena and Bayern play hosts to Koln.
