Bayern Boost UCL Progress With Gritty Win In Turkey Against Galatasaray

October 24, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich took a big step towards the UEFA Champions League knockout stages with a 3-1 victory away at Galatasaray on Tuesday night.

Kingsley Coman gave the German champions an early lead, but the hosts responded well and equalised from the penalty spot through Mauro Icardi. However, second-half goals from Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala sealed an important three points for Bayern.

Despite missing several key players due to injury, Bayern named a strong starting XI for the clash in Istanbul. Coman fired them in front after just eight minutes, lashing the ball home after being teed up by Leroy Sane. Galatasaray responded well though, and should have equalised when Kerem Akturkoglu was denied by Sven Ulreich. Their pressure told on 30 minutes – Icardi converted a penalty after he was fouled by Joshua Kimmich.

The second half was a tighter affair, with chances limited. Bayern’s quality shone through in the end though, as Kane scrambled home from close range on 73 minutes after good work from Musiala. The young German then got on the scoresheet himself six minutes later, curling into the bottom corner after being found by Kane. Galatasaray had worked hard, but Bayern’s class told.

The win extends Bayern’s remarkable unbeaten run in the UCL group stage to 37 games and leaves them top of Group A with three wins from three. It was not a vintage performance, but they got the job done to take control of the group. Next up is the return fixture with Galatasaray in Munich in three weeks’ time.
