November 07, (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, the semi-final of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League will pit Bayelsa Queens against the Moroccan hosts, AS FAR.
Following a 3-0 victory over Egyptian champions Wadi Degla on Sunday night at the Stade Prince Heritier, Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens qualified for their first-ever semi-final round of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Wadi Degla, who had won both of their prior meetings with West African opponents, were unable to match Bayelsa Queens’ more impressive display on the day.
Juliet Sunday’s first-half goal and Mercy Itimi’s two goals in the second half guaranteed the Prosperity Girls’ advancement to the semifinal round of the women’s continental competition. They will be hoping to continue to make history when they take on FAR Rabat next week at the semi-finals.
At the group stage of last season’s competition, AS FAR defeated Rivers United, another Nigerian team, 3-0. The game on Wednesday will be held at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat.
