August 15, (THEWILL) – The just concluded Local Government Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State has been described as one that was conducted in a very free, fair and credible manner.
Chief Solomon Agwana, the State’s Party Chairman, recalled that contrary to doubts expressed by many doubts that were fuelled by the #EndBadGovernance/Hunger protest, the event was held as scheduled on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
The Chairman, in a chat with newsmen at the State’s Party Secretariat, along Isaac Boro Way, Yenagoa, pointed out that clear democratic principles were properly adhered to by the Party in ensuring that the LG Congress was conducted peacefully and successfully in the State.
He added that were there to be any cause for objection by any contending party member concerning the exercise, an Appeal panel “is already in place to adjudicate appropriately on such matter”.
Bayelsa, he emphasised, “Is a PDP state that is determined to ensure that it remains so. Hence, we, the leaders, would not do anything undemocratic that would make our members and the generality of our people lose confidence in us.”
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, Hon Leilei Tariye commended party members for keeping faith with the Party. This, he said, was expressed in the mature manner they conducted themselves during the LG Congress at the Council Secretariat in Kaiama.
He maintained that as a Party, LG leaders will not fail to ensure that the people’s democratic expectations are met.
He enjoined the new LG Exco to be patriotic to the cause and mandate of the Party and its government in Creek Haven, and to also ensure that, their conduct within and outside political circles in or outside the LGA aligns with PDP’s principles of fairness and justice in its entirety.
