December 10, (THEWILL) – Barcelona are looking to secure the permanent transfers of Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix when their loan deals from Manchester City and Atletico Madrid end this summer, club President Joan Laporta has revealed.
Speaking in an interview this week, Laporta confirmed it is the club’s intention to keep both players at the Camp Nou beyond their current temporary moves. “Cancelo and Felix have been playing at a high level since they joined. The club will look to keep them for coming seasons,” he stated.
Neither loan deal included an option-to-buy clause, meaning Barcelona will need to negotiate transfer fees with both Premier League champions Man City and La Liga rivals Atletico. However, Laporta insisted “We plan to start negotiations for them shortly, and we have good relations with both Man City and Atleti.”
Portugal international right-back Cancelo originally joined Barca on a last-gasp deadline-day loan, having fallen abruptly out of favour at City months earlier. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich.
Similarly, forward Felix has shone since arriving at Barcelona from Chelsea in January 2023 on an initial temporary transfer. He looks set to now complete a permanent switch, despite reported interest from French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
