BEVERLY HILLS, August 18, (THEWILL) – Spanish side, Barcelona, has ended the contract of Eric Abidal, the club’s sporting director on Tuesday following Friday’s embarrassing 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-finals.
This development is coming barely 24 hours after the sacking of Quique Setien as the head coach.
“The Club would publicly like to thank Éric Abidal for his professionalism, commitment, dedication and the close and positive nature of his relationship with all aspects of the blaugrana family,” the club said in a statement.
“FC Barcelona and Éric Abidal have reached an agreement for the ending of the contract that united the two parties.

THEWILL reports that Abidal was a former defender for the club and has held the role of sporting director at Barca since 2018.
