November 23, (THEWILL) – Barcelona continued their flawless start in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with a 3-1 victory, over Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.
The defending champions fell behind after Laura Freigang, put Frankfurt, ahead just before half-time. However, Barcelona, mounted an impressive second half comeback, netting three goals in a 14-minute span. Salma Paralluelo, bagged a brace for Barca, with her goals coming on either side of Mariona Caldentey’s strike.
The result extends Barcelona’s 100% record in the competition this campaign. They opened with a dominant 5-0 thrashing of Benfica last week. Thursday’s win also caps an excellent 8-day period for Barcelona’s women’s squad. Prior to the UCL victory, they hammered domestic rivals, Real Madrid 5-0 in the Liga F, over the weekend.
While Barcelona sit comfortably atop Group A with 6 points from 2 matches, Benfica currently occupy joint-second place. They bounced back from the loss to Barca by earning a 1-0 win over Rosengard earlier this week. However, they trail the Spanish giants by 3 points.
Barcelona, have their sights set firmly on a third Women’s Champions League trophy in four seasons. And they have started the 2023 campaign in scintillating form as they look to further strengthen their European dominance.
