February 20, (THEWILL) – Barcelona secured their seventh consecutive win in La Liga with a 2-0 victory over Cadiz, thanks to goals from Sergi Roberto and Robert Lewandowski, in the first half.
Despite Barca’s dominance in the opening minutes, it was Cadiz, who nearly took the lead but Roger’s goal was ruled out for offside. Ferran Torres almost gave Barcelona the lead shortly after, but his shot missed the far post.
Barcelona finally broke the deadlock in the dying minutes of the first half, with Roberto scoring after a wonderful bit of play from Torres. Lewandowski doubled the lead soon after with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Although Cadiz had a couple of chances to score in the final minutes, they were unable to convert. As the hosts reclaimed their eight points gap at the top of the table from the challenging catching-up of Real Madrid, Cadiz are hanging precariously just above the relegation zone.
Barca will now focus on their UEFA Europa League play-off against Manchester United on Thursday, followed by a trip to Almeria in La Liga on Sunday. Cadiz will take on Rayo Vallecano next Saturday.
