November 06, (THEWILL) – In Gerard Pique’s final match at Camp Nou before retiring, Barcelona comfortably defeated Almeria 2-0.

Despite Robert Lewandowski’s early missed penalty being made up for by goals from Ousmane Dembele and Frenkie de Jong, it was always going to be Pique’s moment.

The 35-year-old centre-back completed 82 minutes of play before being replaced. He was applauded as he left the field on Saturday by each of the 92,605 spectators as he exchanged tearful hugs with his teammates before exiting.

With their 11th victory in their previous 12 league contests, Barca regained the summit of La Liga ahead of Real Madrid’s trip to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Barca will play its last match before the World Cup against Osasuna. Almeria dropped to 15th place as their winless road streak continues and next up for them is a home tie against Getafe.
