December 03, (THEWILL) – In their Primera Iberdrola match at home against Real Sociedad on Saturday, Barcelona Femini had to battle until the very end to pull off a comeback victory.
Jonatan Giráldez’s squad earned all three points courtesy of a last-second goal by Lucy Bronze, for a victory that helped the league leaders maintain their perfect record after 11 matches.
With just two minutes left in the first half, the visitors finally succeeded in opening the scoring, which they had been pressing for. Le Guilly found the back of the net to give Natalia Arroyo’s team a 1-0 advantage going into the interval.
After trailing at halftime for the first time this season, Barca came out ready to make things right. In the 62nd minute, Marta Torrejón, equalised after she seized control of a loose ball in the Real Sociedad penalty area. Late in the game, Mapi León, had to block an effort from her goalie as the visitors recovered and came close to regaining the lead.
With one minute remaining, Lucy Bronze, found the winner from a corner to preserve Barca’s winning streak and send Estadi Johan Cruyff, into a frenzy. Girálsdez’s team will next play Bayern Munich in the UEFA women’s Champions League on December 7.
