Ayade’s Reelection Bid Still In Limbo As Peace Meeting Brokered By Secondus Ends Inconclusive

SAN FRANCISCO, September 6, (THEWILL) – These are definitely not the best of times for the embattled Governor of Cross Rivers State, Professor Ben Ayade as the peace meeting brokered Wednesday night by Prince Uche Secondus, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, between the governor and aggrieved stakeholders of the party in the state ended inconclusive.

The meeting was attended by members of the National Assembly and other party leaders opposed to Ayade’s reelection.

The stakeholders fear that the party will suffer a painful defeat in next year’s poll if it presents Ayade, clearly the state’s worst governor in decades, as its governorship candidate, citing his increasing unpopularity amongst voters because of his very poor record.

THEWILL gathered authoritatively from leaders of the PDP that members of the National Assembly from the state have vowed to strongly resist the governor’s reelection and are “contemplating their next move” which could also see them dumping the party for another platform should Secondus force his candidacy on the PDP Cross River Chapter.

THEWILL had exclusively reported that the governor’s reelection bid is receiving a strong pushback from leaders of the party in the state following his rising unpopularity due to poor governance.

Secondus had called the meeting at Ayade’s instance in a last ditch effort to appease the warring stakeholders and save his reelection quest. Ayade is one of the PDP governors that has been flirting with the APC.

The PDP Support Group first raised the alarm about Ayade’s unpopularity some days back warning that the party will be handing a resounding victory to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2019 if Ayade get’s the party’s ticket.

It said Ayade is “the worse civilian government ever seen in the state, known to Cross Riverians as a fraud, clown, con man, liar, a thief and the most abused Governor in the history of our dear State.”

The group accused Ayade of siphoning billions from state coffers since he assumed office in 2015, using bogus projects and MoUs.

“It is on record that no sitting Governor of the State has ever met such an opposition and criticism while seeking 2nd term in office. So the question now is why is Governor Ben Ayade’s case so different? Why do Cross Riverians, even 95% of his own appointees are against his 2nd Term bid in office?
