March 19, (THEWILL) – Atletico Madrid secured another crucial victory in La Liga, beating Valencia 3-0 at home to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games.
Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco, and Thomas Lemar scored the goals to secure Atletico’s third consecutive win in the league. The victory also tightened their grip on third place in the standings, with six points separating them from fourth-placed Real Sociedad and five points behind Real Madrid in second.
Diego Simeone’s side dominated proceedings against Valencia, with Griezmann putting them ahead early on with a close-range strike. Carrasco doubled Atletico’s advantage just after the break with a precise shot, and Lemar scored their third in the 67th minute, finishing beautifully from Alvaro Morata’s cross.
Valencia struggled to make an impact and had their only shot on target towards the end of the game. Atletico’s recent resurgence has been down to the form of Griezmann, who is playing some of his best football in years. The Frenchman has scored 151 goals for Atletico and currently leads La Liga in assists this season.
With just one year left on Simeone’s contract, securing a top-four finish and a place in Europe’s elite club competition next season will be crucial for the Argentine coach. Atletico Madrid will face Real Betis on April 2, the Sunday after the international break, while Valencia will play against Rayo Vallecano on Monday.
