Atal Suspended By Nice After Controversial Social Media Video On Israel/Hamas

October 18, (THEWILL) – Algerian right-back, Youcef Atal, has been suspended by his club, OGC Nice, after sharing a controversial video from Palestinian preacher, Mahmoud al-Hasanat, who asked God to “send Jewish people a dark day,” on Saturday.

In a statement, Nice acknowledged that the 25-year-old had quickly deleted the post and apologised publicly in writing. However, the club said “given the nature of the publication shared, and its seriousness,” they have taken disciplinary action by suspending Atal until further notice.

Nice emphasised that the club’s reputation is built on the behaviour of all employees being aligned with institutional values. They reiterated a commitment to ensuring peace prevails over other motives.

The suspension means Atal will miss an unspecified number of upcoming matches. The club said additional sanctions could be imposed by sporting and legal authorities.

Atal, who is teammates with Nigerian forward, Terem Moffi, has been with Nice since 2018, making over 100 appearances. He helped the club finish ninth in Ligue 1 last season. He has featured in six matches of the current campaign with one goal to his name.
