Aston Villa Appoint Ex-Arsenal Boss Emery As New Manager

October 25, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa have officially announced the hiring of Unai Emery, as their new manager to take the vacant position since Steven Gerrard’s firing.

Emery, who left Arsenal worse off, successfully repaired his reputation during his time at Villarreal, winning the Europa League in 2021, and making the UEFA Champions League semifinals last season, before this return to the English Premier League.

Villa confirmed the Spaniard will take his position on November 1 and will not be in the dugout for Saturday’s trip to face Newcastle United. Villa stopped the rot under Gerrard with a 4-0 thrashing of Brentford on Sunday, under first team coach, Aaron Danks.

Emery will, therefore, have two tests against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United with Villa hosting the team in the EPL on November 6 and visiting Old Trafford in the EFL Cup four days later.

Aston Villa’s final tie before the World Cup will be against Brighton and Hove Albion. With their first victory in four EPL games against Brentford, Villa moved up to 15th place in the standings, three points above the danger zone.
