BEVERLY HILLS, May 16, (THEWILL) – The Ladies of Barcelona Femeni are champions of Europe for the first time.
They demolished co-finalists Chelsea’s Ladies with an awesome first-half performance that was inspired by their marvellous wingers Lieke Martens and Caroline Graham Hansen.
Barca were 3-0 up on Chelsea after 20 minutes of the Champions League final, scoring the fastest goal in the competition’s final after just 34 seconds, a Melanie Leupolz own-goal.
Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala, who came in as a late second-half substitute for Jennifer Hermoso in the 71st minute, showed excellent composure to add a fifth goal in the extra minutes of regulation time but the goal was struck out for a Vicky Losada offside in the build up.
In Barcelona’s first ever UWCL, final which they lost to Lyon 4-1, Oshoala had scored Barca’s only goal as a substitute as well, to become the first African to do so.
On Sunday, even though her goal was disallowed, she joined her teammates to lift up the trophy in another record-setting display as she becomes the first ever African winner of the UWCL.
