February 12, (THEWILL) – Popular media personality, Steve Onu, aka Yaw has recounted how singer, Sarah Oyinkansola, aka Ayra Starr, refused to attend The Headies Awards despite the fact that the organisers reached out to her.
The broadcaster made this revelation while reacting to how no Nigerian musician bagged an award at the 2024 Grammys despite their nominations and personally attending the event.
According to Yaw, Ayra Starr was in New York when The Headies boss, Ayo Animashaun, invited her to attend and receive her award. But the Mavin Record Label star refused.
Yaw explained that Animashaun even offered to book the young singer a business class ticket to attend, but she insisted on a private jet or nothing.
The organisers of the award decided to announce her award on social media, but rather than acknowledge the award, she slammed the organisers, while claiming that her award was announced on social media because she’s a woman.
Yaw went on to wonder if the organisers of the Grammys would have ever considered buying flight tickets for all the Nigerian musicians who attended their 2024 award show. He said this while reiterating that these artists need to come down from their high horses and support their own.
