February 03, (THEWILL) – Mikel Arteta has been named the English Premier League’s Manager of the Month for January.
This is the second consecutive award for Arteta, who was also named the best manager for the combined November/December award. He beat fellow nominees, Steve Cooper, Roberto De Zerbi, Unai Emery, and Thomas Frank to win the award.
Arteta’s Arsenal side picked up seven points from three matches during the month of January. They drew with Newcastle at home, won at Tottenham for the first time since 2014, and came from behind to beat Manchester United 3-2. This strong showing has helped Arsenal to move five points clear of second-placed Manchester City, with a game in hand.
This is the third Manager of the Month award that Arteta has received this season, having won it previously in August. Arsenal will be looking to maintain their lead as they face Everton on Saturday afternoon.
It will be their first match since losing to Man City in the FA Cup. The match played at the end of last month at the Etihad stadium saw Nathan Ake grab the game-winning goal four minutes after the hour mark. Both teams meet again in the EPL at the Emirates on Wednesday, February 15.
