August 30 (THEWILL) – Arsenal forward, Folarin Balogun, has finalised a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 club Monaco, as confirmed on Wednesday.
The deal for the 22-year-old United States international is understood to be worth £34.3 million and also includes a 17.5% sell-on clause for Arsenal. Balogun signed a five-year contract with Monaco, keeping him at the club until June 2028. He joined Arsenal at the age of 10 and rose through the Academy ranks before making his senior debut in the UEFA Europa League in 2020.
In January 2022, Balogun went out on loan to Championship side Middlesbrough. Last season, he gained further experience in France while on loan at Reims, where he scored an impressive 21 goals in Ligue 1, attracting the attention of teams in the French top tier, including Monaco.
Balogun never fully established himself as a first-team regular at Arsenal but showed glimpses of his potential. In a statement about the transfer, Arsenal thanked the striker for his contribution and wished him well in the future.
Monaco will be hoping Balogun can build on his development in France and become a key part of their attack. At 22, he still has plenty of room for improvement and will be eager to prove himself at one of Ligue 1’s top clubs.
